Grand Vie Fall 2018 - East

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me . . . You know how the tune goes. So does designer and creative director Jay Strongwater, who crafted his delightful holiday ornament collection after the beloved Christmas carol. With his new collection, inspired by the love of an old-fashioned Christmas and the joyful icons that live in our holiday memories, Strongwater brings our favorite characters to life with each of his hand-painted glass ornaments. Animated with sparkle and whimsy, the 12 Days of Christmas ornament collection began in 2016 with “A Partridge in a Pear Tree,” and ever since Strongwater has introduced the next two days each subsequent year. This year, he is introducing the beautiful “Four Calling Birds” and “Five Golden Rings.” “I’m very excited with the two new ornaments,” Strongwater said. “Each of the four calling birds singing their tunes, wrapped in jeweled scarves and hats, while the five golden rings sparkle with oversized jewels on golden bands set in a bowed box. “We are just starting to sketch days six and seven for 2019, and look forward to finishing with a flourish in 2021 with days 10, 11 and 12,” Strongwater adds. Other new pieces include the festive “Santa on Horse” ornament, featuring the big man himself in his ruby red coat edged in jewel- studded fur, sitting atop a glittery white horse draped in satin, and the eagerly anticipated bespoke ornament. “The Neiman Marcus exclusive ornament begins with a mouth-blown glass ball lacquered in ruby and covered in a snowfall of paper-thin brass flowers, each individually painted with golden glitter and then handset on the glass ball,” Strongwater said. “The complex process only allows us to produce a limited quantity each season.” Drawing inspiration from the jeweled elements in his signature home pieces, the first Jay Strongwater ornament collection launched exclusively with Neiman Marcus in 2001, debuting baroque flourishes and floral bouquets painted, glittered and set with Swarovski crystals on glass balls. “While we always look to our home collection for inspirations, over the years we have added more designs,” Strongwater said. “Each one begins as an original drawing, which is carved in clay, molded in glass, then painted and embellished.” Other holiday traditions include the annual all-jeweled metal ornament, painted with transparent enamels, handset with crystals on 14-karat- gold-finished metal and the date inscribed on the back — directly influenced by Strongwater’s days of designing jewelry, and also his favorite ornament to gift for the holidays. “Each one sparkles, whether hanging from the tree or tied from a ribbon to adorn yourself,” he said. Dallas-Fort Worth-area Jay Strongwater collectors often love the exuberant use of color, sparkle and whimsy to adorn the multiple trees throughout their homes. “I love that so many of our D-FW customers have multiple trees, each one with different themes and colorations,” Strongwater said. “Whether for one tree or many, they so appreciate the time-honored craftsmanship our artisans create each season.” If you have yet to see and enjoy these beautiful, intricate creations for yourself, it’s the most wonderful time of the year to do so. Ornaments are available in-store at Neiman Marcus NorthPark Center and other D-FW locations, as well as online at neimanmarcus.com.
